The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office is currently hiring a part-time cook for the Douglas County Jail. The Douglas County Jail houses between 25 and 50 inmates at a time and serves three meals each day. Cooks are required to work ten hour shifts, four days each week. The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office employs two full-time cooks and part-time cooks are needed to fill-in when the full-time cooks are sick or take vacation. It is anticipated that the part-time cook would work four weeks during the year while the full-time cooks are on vacation. In addition, the part-time cook would be called upon when a full-time cook calls in sick. A food handler’s certificate is required for this position. If an applicant does not possess a food handler’s certificate, the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office will consider paying the cost for an applicant to attend the two-day class necessary to receive certification. Salary for the part-time cook is $12.00 per hour. Interested applicants can complete an application located on the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office website and turn this application in at the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office. Questions regarding this position can be addressed to Chief Deputy Peter M. Buckley
